Abstract

This study proposes a computationally simple approach to multi-unit reporting by using analysis of variance and incorporating ‘twice-stratified’ statistics, called sandwich estimation. Through the examples of case study I (a study of land use in Shandong province where the attribute is spatially continuous) and case study II (a village-based study of per capita income levels in Hing’an, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region), it shows that this method performs well against two other frequently used, probabilistic, model-based approaches to multi-unit reporting on stratified heterogeneous surfaces whilst having the advantage of computational simplicity
