Dépôts récents de travertins dans la vallée du Nacsagromi (Bassin de Szokolya, Monts Börzsöny)

Abstract

In the Szokolya Basin we can recognize a special type of recent travertine deposition, which can be explained by the geologic, geomorphologic and hidrologic conditions of the research area (measurement of water hardness, drillings, XRD, measurement of speed of travertine development). The bedrocks of travertines were identified by measuring the calcium carbonate concentration. The development of travertine deposits occurs in streambeds and in the environment of springs. The oscillations in calcareous content of streams can be determined by water hardness analysis. The geology and geomorphology of springs characterise the underground waterflows. The speed of the process of travertine development was measured over a one-year period by a self-produced tool. - (AM)
