Abstract

History and Geography of Burma supplemented with useful photographs. The book derives from field researches conducted by the As and is divided in 12 chapters starting from the historical sources and the geographic setting. The last chapter (1962-2011) is devoted to Reconstruction and Nation-Building during the juntas. Burma’s future will be shaped by its own past, its historical patterns, its own human and material contexts and its own beliefs. Burmese society is steadfastly devoted to Theravada Buddhism and native supernaturalism. In the foreseeable future Burma’s past will continue to remain an indelible part of its present. - (GL)
