Abstract

The analysis concerned the influence of regional atmospheric circulation on the spatial variability to people’s experiencing of “hot”, “very hot” or “sweltering” thermal sensations in Poland. Specifically, the Man-Environment Heat Exchange Model MENEX_2005 was applied in calculating the frequency of occurrence of the sensation of “hot” in Poland at 12 UTC in line with Physiological Subjective Temperature (PST). Sea-level pressure data for the North Atlantic and Europe domain from the NCEP reanalysis in 1971-1990 were used. The Empirical Orthogonal Functions (EOF) method was applied to assess several models for the spatial and temporal variability of the parameter analyzed. The statistical downscaling procedure of Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) was used to study the link between regional-scale circulation patterns and the local field of frequency of occurrence of “hot”, “very hot” or “sweltering” sensations in Poland. – (BJ)
