Abstract

Presentation of the two-step floating catchment area method (2SFCA) made frequent use of in recent years to analyse the accessibility of medical facilities. Specifically, a first-section presentation of the basic conceptual and methodological issues relating to spatial accessibility research is followed by an outlining of the critical characteristics of selected, most commonly-used methods of describing accessibility to medical services. The third section then details requirements as regards the data used in 2SFCA, followed by instructions as to how to apply the method. The next section then furnishes the example of the spatial accessibility of hospital emergency departments for inhabitants of Mazowieckie voivodship. The A. concludes by addressing the advantages and limitations of the method in question, as well as future methodological challenges whose addressing will help improve the efficiency and precision of the 2SFCA method. – (BJ)
