This article examines the Korean industrial chaebol such as Hyundai and the US military–industrial complex (MIC) through Cold War geopolitical economy and South Korean industrialization. It ar-gues that the dynamic growth and industrial transformation of its economy and especially its crucial construction firms—are attributable not only to the actions of the Korean developmental state but to the effects of a Cold War geopolitical economy that made access to technological and engineering learning opportunities available to South Korean contractors on unusually favorable terms
