The AA. present a design for a low budget and low maintenance hillslope sediment trap (HST) that has successfully been deployed to measure gross annual hillslope sediment production (suspended and bedload) across 2 wet seasons in the Normanby catchment, Cape York, North Queensland. The trap is evaluated under laboratory conditions prior to deployment in remote rangelands. Results show that the traps can empirically evaluate modeled hillslope erosion rates
