Abstract

The author explains the Thai society and its main ideological concepts. The idea of “democratic government headed by the King” and its understanding of democracy and human rights is developed. The quest for rapid social changes stimulates a will to reaffirm an identity which is anchored in history and mostly in Buddhist traditions. A chapter is devoted to the identity. The three institutions: Nation, Religion and King integrate (history, society and people). - (GL)
