Abstract

The paper analyzes the impacts of Holocene tectonics on channel slope, on the spatial distribution of Holocene floodplain accumulation and on the centennial trends of annual maximum water stage and annual water-level amplitude. Also in the Holocene major knickpoints formed on the margin of subsiding basins, in the zone of deep structure cutting across the country in NE to SW direction as well as on the E and SE margin of the uplifting Hungarian Mountains. The less remarkable knickpoints, on the other hand, indicate very slight subsidence of basin lowlands in the Tisza and Drava valleys. The major area of Holocene accumulation on the active Danube floodplain is in the Paks-Mohács depression of prolonged subsidence in the Holocene, while in the Tisza Valley it coincides with the North-Hungarian fault zone of NE to SW direction. - (AM)
