Abstract

It is well known that renewable energies are not yet self-supporting and profitable enough for investor-owned companies, particularly are not for oil and gas companies. However, most of the large oil companies have some renewable energy businesses, even the Supermajors, the biggest corporations of the energy sector. A. analyses the reasons why ExxonMobil, Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell, BP, and Total sustain renewable energy businesses despite not making enough profit from them. According to A’s findings some Supermajors do not deal with renewable energies, even they can markedly improve their social image. Others have a strong focus on renewable energy business and have a key role as a global players in the industry. - (AM)
