Abstract

The AA. have reconstructed mid-summer (July) temperatures using a master ring-width chronology of Scots pine for northern Fennoscandia, covering nearly the last 2 millennia. The largest temperatures anomalies of individual summers as well as longer-term temperature variability are presented. Using empirical evidence, the AA. studied the traces that a Medieval Warm Epoch and the Little Ice Age might have left in the tree rings in the region
