Abstract

This study aims to deepen knowledge of the urban heat island (UHI) of Vancouver by looking at its daily and seasonal variations and by taking a closer look at controls exerted by weather (wind speed and direction, and cloud) and the state of the surroundings (rural soil moisture and sea surface temperature). To do so, it uses hourly UHI magnitudes determined from fixed-point air temperature observations at an urban (downtown) and rural (farmland) site for the period 1991 to 1994
