Abstract

The AA. present a reconstruction of the late Quaternary paleoclimate history in central Europe with special emphasis on the period of ice buildup following the last (Eemian) interglaciation. Special attention is focused on 1) reconstructing the atmospheric circulation and associated precipitation patterns responsible for the ice buildup in the Alps during the last glaciation and 2) an explanation for the nonsynchronous maximum glacial extents in the Alps, the Pyrénées, and the surrounding low mountain ranges
