Abstract

This paper analyses the catchment-wide spatial variability in the capacity of reaches to source and transfer alluvial materials. This sediment budget is extended to the estuary. The specific pattern of different types of rivers dictates the spatial variability in sediment storage and transfer. By assessing the volume of material stored in different stores and sinks, implications for river sensitivity, sediment exhaustion and geomorphic river recovery are interpreted
