Abstract

New data from a continuous 5000-yr sedimentary record in Quebrada de los Burros in coastal southern Peru are presented here. The occurrence of organic loamy sands and debris-flow layers in these deposits is discussed with respect to the occurrence of the El Niño phenomenon and coastal upwelling activity at this site during the mid-Holocene. The results are compared with Holocene sequences from the Altiplano
