Abstract

This study provides characterization data, and examines spatio-geomorphic variability, for some pedons that have developed on these debris aprons under a warm to temperate humid climate. It also compares the pedons to those derived from nearby saprolite. Although, theoretically, a variety of processes may have generated the aprons in the region, the deposits examined here have sedimentary characteristics and fabric that are consistent with a debris flow origin. To better understand pedogenesis on debris aprons in the Southern Appalachians, more information on the characteristics of parent materials, (lithologic discontinuities), is required
