Abstract

The AA. aim to establish whether the sapropel mode is a stable, robust state or whether it is strongly sensitive to fluctuations in the surface buoyancy loss. They therefore use the ocean general circulation model (OGCM) of Myers et al. (1998) to investigate whether a small climate deterioration is able to induce deep convection and reoxegenation of the eastern Mediterranean. The model is briefly described and then the AA. present their sapropel interruption experiments and compare them with cores that present evidence of the interruption within S1
