Abstract

The AA. consider the paleoclimatic significance of glacial sediments and landforms preserved along the margins of the Strait of Magellan, and show that the character and distribution of glacial sediment-landform associations set limits on mean annual temperatures and precipitation in the region for the last glacial maximum (LGM) and late-glacial intervals (25,000-14,000 C 14 yr B.P.). They present the first paleotemperatures estimates for the LGM at this latitude in South America and show that conditions are likely to have been considerably colder than suggested by recent modeling studies
