Abstract

This paper investigates sedimentation in the Barasona reservoir, located in the Central Spanish Pyrenees, and the physiographic and sedimentological characteristics of its watershed. Many Pyrenean rivers have been dammed in the foothills to provide electricity and irrigation water to the lowland areas. The AA. reconstruct the depositional history of the barasona reservoir, identify potential areas of higher sediment yield risk in the watershed, and discuss the role of geomorphologic, hydrologic, and anthropogenic factors in reservoir siltation
