Abstract

This article investigates the toposequences of soils in the last primary forested areas of the Petexbatún region in the southwestern Petén to compare these with sites that have been slashed and burned and cultivated with short or no fallows since the late 1980s. The catenas discussed are affected by the downslope movement of soil by slow geological and rapid human-induced processes of overland and pipe flow
