Upper Miocene reefs in Southern Calabria: new records from the Palmi and Vibo Valentia areas and their paleogeographic and neotectonic importance
GRASSO M. ; PEDLEY M. ; DISTEFANO R. ; CORMACI C. ;
The carbonates around the town of Palmi show the most continuous reef developments, which extend for about 5 km in a NNE-SSW direction. This trend is parallel to the strike of the staircased system of normal faults which characterizes the coastline. This fits well with the tectonic evolution of adjacent offshore areas, as established elsewhere from geological and seismic marine studies. - (MR)
