The aim of this article is to review some contemporary directions in the traditionally important aspect of applied climatology. Recent research into the relationship between climate and agriculture can be divided into the 2 main areas of traditional studies of the impacts of climate on agricultural activities, including the effects of short-term variability (associated with the El Niño-Southern Oscillation phenomenon); and the significance of climate change, particularly global warming, for agriculture
