Abstract

This paper presents an investigation of one of several boulder deposits on the northwest flanks of the La Sal Mountains, in Utah. A deductive approach is used to determine the most likely scenario surrounding the formation of one of these lobes. Several alternative scenarios are presented and evaluated in light of available evidence. Evidence consists of surface morphology, subsurface geology, stratigraphic relationships, present and past climatic conditions, and fabric analysis. The lobe was compared to other similar types of deposits, and the AA. conclude that it is a fossil permafrost-derived rock glacier
