Abstract

The goal of this research is to determine the extent to which Virginia tornado events are characterized by different air-mass and air-flow characteristics. The AA. hypothesize that several distinctly different synoptic weather situations are responsible for Virginia tornadoes and that the values of a suite of instability and severe-weather indices used for predicting tornadic activity are significantly different among these air-mass types
