Abstract

This paper demonstrates and quantifies the variable temperature characteristics of different lithologies under direct and indirect forms of heating with particular emphasis on the role of albedo. Four rock types were used : Portland limestone, Dunhouse sandstone, Antrim basalt and Mourne granite. The possible implications of variable temperature response for the design of weathering simulation studies and standard durability tests will then be examined.
