Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyse the effectiveness of floods of different magnitude on overbank sedimentation rates. Sediment accumulation was measured during a series of four floods of different magnitude and duration. The measurements were carried out on two embanked floodplain sections along the river Waal near Varik (VP) and the river Meuse near Keent (KE) in the Netherlands. To collect the sediment, sediment traps made of artificial grass were used. Attention was paid to total sediment accumulation, patterns in sediment accumulation, and to the grain size distribution of the deposited sediment
