Biodiversity - the road to an atlas
This review of existing maps suggests some useful goals in generating the pages of an atlas of biodiversity : 1) standardization of the methods used for presenting information on spatial variation in biodiversity (e.g., a set of standard grids for mapping); 2) presentation of information on the confidence associated with different estimates of diversity or the sampling efforts associated with them; and 3) greater co-ordination between different research groups mapping taxa in the same and different regions
