Abstract

Patterns of climate and C4 plant abundance in the southwestern United States during the last glaciation were evaluated from isotopic study of herbivore tooth enamel. The primary objectives were to : delineate synoptic patterns in late Pleistocene C4 plant abundance across the southwest from δC 13 values of herbivore enamel; and evaluate the data in the context of a quantum yield model for photosynthesis and surface moisture conditions inferred from enamel δO 18 values and other paleoproxy records
