Abstract

Geomorphological studies involving river reconnaissance, analysis (both qualitative and quantitative) and assessment can supply information on the form and physical processes operating in a fluvial system. This information is of value to river engineers and managers wishing to work with, rather than against, nature when undertaking engineering and maintenance operations or devising management policies. The utility of geomorphological river reconnaissance is illustrated using a case study from the River Blackwater, southeast England
