Abstract

This paper contributes to the evaluation of the geomorphological significance of large woody debris, LWD, in European rivers. It provides a context for this evaluation through an analysis of the international literature on LWD. It then presents an analysis based upon semi-natural hydrosystems in S.E. France and S. England of different geomorphological pattern or type. Finally, some recomendations for management based upon geomorphological river types are presented
