Abstract

Several quantifiable parameters in 30 soils on dune crests in east-central lower Michigan are measured. The sites lie within 3 distinct dune fields (10 in each) scattered throughout the region. The aim of this study was to determine whether the dunes in the 3 areas have been stable for a similar length of time (i.e., are of similar age) or whether they stabilized randomly in time and space. Second, the AA. sought to estimate a minimum-limiting age of the dunes by comparing the degree of surface-soil development to soils of known age in northwest lower Michigan
