A dendroclimatic reconstruuction of annual precipitation on the Western Canadian Prairies since A.D. 1505 from Pinus flexilis James

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

This study demonstrates the potential of Pinus flexilis James (Limber pine) in southwestern Alberta to provide long dendroclimatic records of precipitation. The AA. present a 487-yr reconstruction of annual precipitation based on tree-ring widths from living and subfossil Pinus flexilis obtained from three sample sites. They compare this record with the results of previous tree-ring studies to examine the degree of synchrony between droughts in southern Alberta and other portions of the North American plains. Finally, they compare the droughts of the last 100 yr with the prehistoric period
