Abstract

This book is an analysis of a water development project in Southern Mozambique and aims at illustrating some of the key issues in data generation and impact assessment. The Pequenos Libombos Reservoir, in the Umbeluzi River of Southern Mozambique, has been used as a case study to evaluate methods for terrain analysis, sediment transport and reservoir sedimentation in an EIA framework. The environmental impacts are discussed on site, at the reservoir and off site, downstream as well as in catchment perspective, i.e. impacts on the project by the upstream river basin
