In this study, a series of experiments on sandstone and dolerite was undertaken in an attempt to elucidate the effects due to wetting and drying resulting from the apportionment of water to rock samples in the manner used in many freeze-thaw and/or salt weathering laboratory studies. In addition to indicating the weathering effects with respect to laboratory procedures, the resulting data also have applicability to field situations in which the manner of rock wetting is analogous to that used in the laboratory
