Abstract

This paper shows that relief peels are an effective, and in some cases, indispensable aid in the description and interpretation of especially very fine-grained palaeoflood deposited slack-water sediments. Also it shows that the description of slack-water sediments as massive and structureless, is erroneous in most cases where relief peels are studied in conjunction with field-outcrop sections. Relief peels are an important tool in differentiating between palaeoflood, nonpalaeoflood and intraflood pulses
