This article first provides some rudimentary background in fractal geometry. Next, the various methods that have been proposed to determine fractal dimensions for both linear features and topographic surfaces are presented and evaluated. Whether or not geographic phenomena are fractals is discussed in the third section. A review of the literature of geographic issues that have been studied with fractal analysis follows. Finally, the limitations of fractal analysis in geomorphic studies are raised and conclusions drawn
