Abstract

The preferred habitats for baldcypress are common features in the alluvial valleys of the Coastal Plain. In contrast, they are mostly absent in the surrounding regions where swamps and abandonned channels occur relatively infrequently. the coincidence of the northern limits of baldcypress and the Fall Line boundary of the Coastal Plain strongly suggests that its distribution is controlled by the avaibility of suitable habitats for regeneration. The AA. evaluate this hypothesis by examining the distribution of baldcypress in river valleys of six streams that flow from the upland provinces into the Coastal Plain
