Abstract

This paper presents a radiocarbon age for organic matter from silt deposited on the proximal margin of the northwest section of the Port Huron system in Michigan. On the basis of geographic position and stratigraphy the AA. believe that deposition of the silt immediately postdates formation of the moraine, thus providing a minimum age for the Inner Port Huron moraine. Several previously published radiocarbon ages establish a limit for its maximum age. Together, these ages provide a basis for 1) bracketing the age of the northwest part of the complex, 2) corroborating its time-equivalency with the Wyoming moraine in Ontario, and 3) discussing age relationships among all five parts of the system
