Abstract

The earlier estimate for the age of laminated sediment formation, late Pleistocene to Holocene, was based on extrapolation of diatom data in the cores witn conventional [14]C and oxygen-isotope chronologies. However, new radiocaebon ages for cores show that the laminated deposits range in age from about 42,000 to 25,000 yr, rather than spanning the period from 20,000 to 5,000 yr B.P.
