Abstract

Landscapes contain mixtures of equilibrium, disequilibrium and nonequilibrium landforms, and these types of landforms interact in geomorphic systems such as sediment cascades. The three types of behavior may coexist in the same landscape, and the outputs of such mixed geomorphic systems reflect the combined effects of equilibrium, disequilibrium, and nonequilibrium subsystems. This classification provides a framework for analysis and modeling of complex landscapes
