Abstract

In this paper the content of several well-preserved stick-nest rat middens is examined to determine their potential for paleoecological reconstruction. In particular, the research was structured to examine whether pollen records varied among midden components, whether the records showed any variation through time, and how representative the records might be of the surrounding environment. The approach followed was to determine the age of, and separate and compare, macrofossil and pollen records from fecal material, grass mat, and amberat components. They also measured the age span over which one midden was built and then assessed the paleoecological significance of the results
