Les formations cénozoïques de la carrière C.B.R. du Romont (Eben/Bassenge, Belgique)

The C.B.R. quarry of the Romont hill is escavated into chalk and sandy chalk (Cretaceous), marine sand (Oligocene), and continental formations (Quaternary). Two terraces of the river Meuse are displayed (bases respectively at 126 m and 109 m above sea level), and another two, which are only known by drilling cores, are present in the northern part of the hill (116 m and 91-93 m). An upper Weichselian loess cover is also present, which contains the most important stratigraphical horizons known in the area : present soil, loess including laminae of granules, Tongued Horizon, Eltville Tephra. Older loess is only present in gullies and solution pockets. A residual gravel layer occurs below the loess throughout the area
