Differential weathering of feldspar and pyroscene in an arctic-alpine environment

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

In this pilot study an attempt was made to measure directly the degree of differential relief of feldspar and pyroxene on an exposed bedrock surface and with increasing depth of burial in an arctic-alpine Brown Soil. Measurements were recorded from a recently-exhumed bedrock outcrop in Leirdalen, Jotunheimen. The results confirm the importance of chemical weathering in arctic-alpine environments and the techniques may provide useful physical measures of degree of weathering for use in rate studies and relative-dating
