Abstract

This paper examines the rapidly evolving east coast of the Burdekin Delta between the main distributary mouth and the base of Cape Bowling Green spit from 1980 to 1995. The coastal evolution has been mapped and analyzed from 6 aerial surveys between 1978 and 1993, and also from a ground survey of Alva Spit in 1995, including vegetation mapping, which is compared with a similar 1980 survey. The major coastal changes will be examined especially with reference to the occurrence of 3 tropical cyclones and associated major river floods, storm surges and high energy wave activity
