Experimental design for a pilot study on bedrock weathering near the permafrost table

This paper describes a new experimental design developed in a pilot study to test the hypothesis of rock weathering by ice segregation in the active layer and uppermost permafrost. This laboratory weathering experiment has attempted to simulate, to a first approximation, the annual thermal and hydrological regime of permafrost in bedrock. Some preliminary results from 3 cycles of freezing and thawing are discusses in order to demonstrate the potential of this new approach to periglacial weathering experiments
