Abstract

The Salt Flats, near the Utah-Nevada state line, are a scenic but chameleon-like landscape. Study identifies the factors that make the Salt Flats so appealing to filmmakers and to classify the types of places they create with it. The Salt Flats are a visually stunning remnant of Lake Bonneville - stark whiteness surrounded by majestic mountains and blue sky. The four major themes of place portrayed are : land of human triumph, land of destruction and desolation, playground, and surreal spot of the strange and bizarre. - (SLD)
