Abstract

Using newspaper advertisements and field excursions, A. examines the role of dance pavilion in Ostrobothnia (West Central) Finland since World War II. These dance floors assist in pair formation during the long evenings of the northern summer. Originally built by small communities, they helped local people pair off, but they also helped to create a highly inbred population, which suffers from a high incidence of genetically transmitted diseases, some of which occur especially in Ostrobothnia. - (SLD)
