Abstract

Paper is concerned with the how to build social capital, which is viewed as norms of reciprocity and networks of civic engagement. AA. address what mixes of intervention best build social capital and how transportable are these interventions to other contexts. For answers they study the organizational history of indigenous water-users associations in the northern highlands of Ecuador (Cayambe region). Those successful associations have been overlaid upon traditional social networks based on obligation and reciprocity. - (SLD)
