Dryland salinity on the Dundas Tableland : a historical appraisal

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

NATHAN E. ;

Abstract

Two historical premises of the hydro-equilibrium model as applied to the Dundas Tableland are challenged : firstly, that dryland salinity is secondary, or induced by European settlement; and, secondly, that reasons for significant evapotranspirative changes can be reduced to early tree clearance. The A. shows that is necessary to provide a Victorian context for the development of the groundwater recharche model, and hopes that this contribution gives a respectful but significant nudge to the hegemony of physical science in defining and finding solutions for environmental problems
