Abstract

Paper tells the story of how political and poster maps were produced in Hungary for propaganda purposes with the keadership of Sándor Radó a famous cartographer and Russian spy in Switzerland during the Second World War. At his department Radó set up a team in 1957 with the aim of supplying the press with correct and cartographically appropriate, high quality maps. These maps were intended to inform about the geographical location current political events and phenomena. As a consequence of the spread of computers the demand for political and poster maps has gradually decreased from the mid-1980 and the activity was abolished after the political changes. - (ZK)
